SAD ACCIDENT CASTS GLOOM OVER WAHPETON

Life of Little Loris Mae Adams Taken at the Close of “Play Day” The entire city changed in a few moments from merriment and laughter to a city of gloom and sadness. Not a dry eye was seen on our streets when the citizens learned that the life of little Loris Mae Adams, youngest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W. I. Adams, had come to an end as the result of being struck by an automobile. It was the close of “Play Day” and all the afternoon the fairgrounds had been thronged with people, but as the afternoon wore away many had gone home

and only a few remained on the grounds when the accident occurred. Just how it all came about is hard to say. It seems Miss Anne Wrege, a young girl from Hankinson, was driving a Ford sedan and as she came in front of the grandstand where little Loris and her friends were playing the car caught her, inflicting a deep scalp wound and internal injuries. The little tot did not lose consciousness until the angel of death claimed her about 30 minutes later, but all the time lay quietly and talked to her father.

Everyone in town and the traveling public knew Loris Mae, as she was the pet of every stranger who visited the Merchants hotel of which Mr. Adams is the proprietor, and her happy cheerful disposition was often the comment of her Wahpeton friends. She was six years old September 14, 1920.

One extremely sad feature in the case is the fact that Mrs. Adams had just returned from the hospital and is in a serious condition. It was some time before the sad news could be told the mother. Besides her parents she leaves three sisters, Mrs. Muriel Fuller of Beloit, Kansas. Mrs. J. K. Beynon and Frances and Ruth of this city.

At this writing no funeral arrangements have been made.
