Augustus Aspinwall-1912

Death Comes to Old Gentleman Tuesday Evening ILLNESS OF ONLY TWO WEEKS One of Wahpeton’s Prominent Citizens for 28 years.

Mr. Augustine Aspinwall died at his home Tuesday evening after an illness that lasted about two weeks. He was taken with a light attack of pneumonia, he was unable to take any nourishment and his age was against him. He suffered very little and slept most of the time during his illness. He was conscious when awake until nearly the end.

Mr. Augustine was born in Genoa, New York, March 9th, 1830, his boyhood days were spent at Eimira, N. Y. He came west and located at Ft. Ripley, where he traded with the Chippewa Indians.

He was married to Miss Harriet Louise McCrory on Dec. 21, 1863. To this union six children were born five of whom are living; they are Mrs. B. F. Crowl of St.Paul, Mrs. L. V. Smith of Priest River, Idaho, Miss Mary Aspinwall of Minot, E. A. Aspinwall of Minot, and W. B. Aspinwall of Wahpeton. Mrs. Aspinwall died Feb. 6th 1885. He was married to Maria L. Bessac of Scranton, Pa., on Feb 6, 1889. To this union there were no children.

Mr. Aspinwall was an old resident of Wahpeton, having lived here since 1884. He has conducted a real estate and loan business during the whole time of his residence here. Before coming to Wahpeton he lived near Green Lake, Minn., where he proved upon a homestead. He has always been straight forward and honest in all his business transactions.

The funeral will be at the family home Thursday afternoon, the interment in Fairview cemetery. The sympathy of a host of friends go out to the bereaved wife and children.
