Obituary
Sheldon Windsor Affield, 76
Sheldon W. (Sheldy) Affield, 76, of Portland, Oregon, died Feb. 6, 2019 at Laurelhurst Village of natural causes.
He was born in Breckenridge, Minnesota, on June 3, 1942, the second child of Elmer and Norma (Hestdalen) Affield. Baptized at Christ Lutheran Church, his early years were on the family farm east of Kent, Minnesota. The family moved to a farm on the west edge of Wahpeton in 1948.
He was active in Boy Scouts, 4-H, athletics, lettered in football and was confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church. In 1960 he graduated from Wahpeton High School. At the University of North Dakota, Grand Forks, he earned a Bachelor’s degree in 1964. During the 60’s and 70’s he was a Twin Cities-based life insurance agent. Later he was employed in several roles including farm work and truck driving. He moved to Portland in the 80’s.
Tall, outgoing and energetic, he enjoyed visiting and laughter through sharing humorous memories. He was a fine ballroom dancer. Ever on the go, he sought adventurous experiences. His great passion was enjoying the outdoors through boating, skiing, fishing, wilderness canoeing and moose hunting in Canada.
Sheldon is survived by his daughter, Michelle; sisters, Sharon Rostad and Roxann Langseth; brother, Steve, along with in-laws, aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins.
His final resting place is Fairview Memorial Gardens, Wahpeton. The family will hold a private graveside service on June 21, 2019.
