Obituary
Andrew Braaten, 74, Dies; Funeral At Wyndmere
Andrew Braaten, 74, of Barney died Saturday night in St Francis Hospital after being hospitalized four months.
Funeral services will be held at 2 Wednesday at the Wyndmere Lutheran Church with The Rev. Waldemar Anderson officiating. Organist will be Mrs. Klinton Braaten and vocalist Kenneth Braaten. Interment will be in Fairview Memorial Gardens. Presentation of the flag will be by the Wyndmere American Legion Post.
Pallbearers will be Edward Anderson, Richard Anderson, John Score, Maurice Wold, Kermit Kjonaas and Orvin Sanden.
Visitation will be Tuesday afternoon and evening and until 11 a.m. Wednesday at Vertin’s-Wahpeton Funeral Home.
Mr. Braaten was born June 15, 1893 at McLeod, N.D., the son of Knute and Astrid Braaten. When 16 years of age, he went to Montana and worked on a ranch. He served in the Army in World War I and served overseas in France and Germany taking part in five engagements. He received the Purple Heart.
He married Gina Wold June 27, 1922 at Richland Lutheran Church. The couple lived in Fargo where he attended North Dakota State University. In 1926, they moved to Barney where they farmed extensively. Retiring in 1948, the couple moved to Fergus Falls where they lived until 1954 when they returned to Barney to make their home. Mrs. Braaten died April 11, 1967 and he continued to live in Barney.
Mr. Braaten was a member of the Wyndmere Lutheran Church and American Legion, Elks and Concordia C-400 Club.
Surviving are a son and daughter, Allan Braaten of Barney and Mrs. Edward E. (Marlys) Anderson of Detroit Lakes; seven grandchildren; two brothers and four sisters, Oscar Braaten of Jamestown, Oliver of Wyndmere, Mrs. H. E.
(Carrie) Hanson and Betty Braaten of Fargo, Mrs. H. O. (Bertine) Kjonaas of Minot and Mrs. Christ (Emma) Kjonaas of Maxbass, N.D.
