Obituary
Services for Orie Baker, 72, Held Sunday
Funeral services for Orie Henry Baker 72, longtime Richland County resident, were held Sunday in Bethel Lutheran Church, Rev. Ralph S. Forde of Dwight, officiating. Mr. Baker died at St. Francis Hospital Thursday.
He was born Aug. 27, 1893, at Hankinson and was raised there. He had farmed with his father until taking training in a barber college in Minneapolis. He returned to Hankinson and married Lena Meuhler there Sept 23, 1916. The couple farmed in Elma Township until retiring to live in Wahpeton in 1956.
He leaves his wife; three sons and two daughters, Raymond and Herbert, both Wahpeton; Henry, Denver, Colo.; Mrs. August (Pearl) Rettig, Hankinson; and Mrs. Elroy (Grace) Borchardt Fairmount, N.D., and 20 grandchildren.
Organist was Mrs. Horace Lahren and Lyle Jacobson, vocalist.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two sons and two sisters.
Interment was in Fairview Cemetery, Wahpeton.
Mr. Baker was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church.
Serving as active pallbearers were Wilbur Raddatz, Vernon Smith, Louie Schultz, John Schultz, John Wilm and John Hentz. Honorary Pallbearers were Matt Meyer, Jubert Malme, Ben Johannasmeyer, August Borchart, Arthur Granlund, and Ervin Dierks.
A prayer service was held Saturday at Vertin’s Wahpeton Chapel with Carl Listug, Bethel Lutheran intern in charge.
