Barton Funeral Held Thursday In Breckenridge

Funeral rites were conducted Thursday afternoon from the Methodist Church in Breckenridge for Earl Thomas Barton, Breckenridge, who died suddenly Sunday following a heart attack. He was 52 years old.

Rev. Roy Harris officiated at the service and interment was made in Fairview Cemetery in Wahpeton. Jos. Vertin and Sons Funeral Home in Breckenridge handled arrangements.

Born Feb. 12, 1901, in Iowa, he came to Wilkin county with his parents as a boy six years old.

His parents farmed in the vicinity of Breckenridge where he attended schools and grew to manhood. He married Mary Lehman at Breckenridge on Jan. 12, 1942.

A short time later he entered the armed forces during World War II. While in service he was injured in an accident while on maneuvers in California. He was hospitalized in Palm Springs for 18 months and later sent to the Clinton, Ia., veteran’s hospital for a three month period. He was discharged from service in 1945.

He returned to Breckenridge where he owned a school bus and drove for the Breckenridge public school.

He leaves his wife in Breckenridge, his mother, Mrs. Florence Barton, also of Breckenridge, and three brothers, Ray of Salinas, Calif., and Glen and Atlee, both of Breckenridge.
