Obituary

Frank M. Blanding -1903

Death of Frank Blanding.

Mr. Frank Moxley Blanding, son of the late J. W. Blanding of this city, died on the 8th at Omaha, Nebraska. That evening his brother W. D. Blanding of this city, was notified of his brother’s death, and he left the same evening for Omaha. The body was brought to Wahpeton Monday morning, and was taken to the family home west of the city. Funeral services were held at the Congregational church yesterday afternoon, and the remains were interred in the cemetery west of town.

Frank Blanding was born at Lancaster, Wisconsin, in 1870, and came to Wahpeton in 1872. Was educated in the public schools of this city and when he became old enough entered the Wahpeton Mercury office to learn the printer’s trade. Frank worked in Wahpeton and traveled over the country for a number of years, and finally located in Omsha four years ago, and took charge of a linotype machine in the World-Herald office, and died while on duty. The night of his death Mr. Blanding was at work as usual, but at 1 o’clock a.m., he rose from his machine and went to the door leading into the hall and opened the door to get a little fresh air. He was noticed to stagger and tipped over backwards, dying instantly. His death was due to heart failure. The body was taken to the undertaker’s office, and his brother at Wahpeton was notified.

Walter Blanding says he never was treated more considerately any place than he was at Omaha by the officials, the printers of Omaha Union, and he wishes to express his thanks to that organization.

Frank Blanding worked for The Globe at intervals for many years. He was a genial, capable, kind-hearted man, and we sincerely regret his death. He leaves three sisters and four brothers, he being the first of a large family of children to pass away.
