LeRo Boelke Dies of Auto Accident Hurts

Funeral Services To Be Conducted Tuesday From Immanuel Church

LeRoy Boelke, Hankinson injured in an auto accident on Sept. 8, 1941, died Friday. Funeral services are to be conducted Tuesday from the Immanuel Lutheran Church here with Rev. Becker officiating and burial will be in Fairview cemetery.

The accident occurred one mile north of Mooreton when Boelke and Clyde Olson, also of Hankinson, were on their way to work. They were employed by District gang No. 2 for the Great Northern. He suffered a fractured jaw and crushed chest.

Born Oct. 2, 1917, at Great Bend, he came to Wahpeton as a boy ten years old. He attended grade school here and high school, leaving Wahpeton two years ago for Hankinson which he made his home. He is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Boelke of Hankinson and a sister, Betty Jane.

He was in the hospital here for six weeks receiving treatment. Pneumonia followed weeks of illness and an abscess set in one lung. He was in the hospital here for six weeks and in a Minneapolis hospital since then.

Services will be at Schmitt & Olson Chapel here at two and from the church at 2:30. Pallbearers will be cousins of LeRoy Boelke: Andrew Raftevold, James Freese of Wyndmere, Frank Lawrence, Alfred Eckes of Park Rapids, Minn., LeRoy Wettstein and Elmer Holst of Hankinson.

Always a very fine, clean, young man, his death was particularly tragic and followed a struggle of months on the part of his parents to save his life. He was of the Lutheran faith.
