J.L. Brand Dies Monday Morning Here
Well Known Pioneer Resident Of County Was Born in Hammond, Wisc.
Jay L. Brand, 59, well known pioneer resident of this county, where he has farmed in Mooreton township for many years died Monday morning at his home nine miles southwest of town. Taken ill while in Wahpeton last Tuesday, Mr. Brand was taken to his home where he was care for during his last illness.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday afternoon at 2:30 o’clock from the Congregational church in Wahpeton with the Reverend Mr. Caskey in charge. Mr. Brand was prominent in township affairs and had held offices in his township for many years, he was also active in his school district and held office here also.
Jay L. Brand was born in Hammond, Wis., in 1878. He came to North Dakota as a young lad with his parents, the late Mr. and Mrs. Pete Brand. He was married thirty-four years ago to Isabel Wright, sister of Dan Wright of this city. During their entire married life, they made their home on his farm which is seven miles west and two miles south of Wahpeton, where a half section of farmland is cultivated and a fine fam home has been built up.
Four children were born to them, of whom one of the youngest sons, Clyde preceded his father in death three year ago. Surviving are the eldest son, Leslie who is married, and Mildred and Will at home. Also surviving are his brother, Herb Brand, who farms the home farm in Mooreton township just north of the Jay Brand farm and one sister, Mrs. Charles Jost, of Center township.
