Obituary

AGED LADY IS CALLED HOME That well known “Grandma to all of us” has passed from earthly existence, only in body, but not in spirit. Death came at 8 o’clock Thursday evening. She was the widow of J. F. Briggs, known as Uncle Sam, and mother of Miss L. C. Briggs, a local milliner. Funeral services were held at the Foss M. E Church Saturday afternoon Here her numerous friends gathered to pay tribute to her everlasting memory. She has been recipient of many presents and tokes of well wishes during her life here specially the last five years during her illness that finally caused her to close her eyes to earthly things and enter into the new life of helping her maker in the heavens above.

Jane Ann Knapp was born in Janesville, N.Y., August 10, 1825. In 1848 she was married to J. F. Briggs at Brewerton, same state. From New York they came to Wisconsin and settled near Beaver Dam. In 1880 they came to the Dakotas and settled near White Rock, S. D. During their wedlock seven children born to them, of which four are now dead. During the latter part of their remaining years they came to Wahpeton to live. Mr. Briggs passed away 11 years ago. Those surviving are Claude Briggs of Yakima, Wash., Frank Briggs of White Rock and Miss L. C. Briggs of this city.
