Obituary
Jessie J. Babbitt
Services for Jesse J. Babbitt, 89, Wahpeton, will be at 11, Thursday at Vertin's of Wahpeton Funeral Home Chapel. Mr. Babbitt died Tuesday morning at St. Francis Hospital. Rev. Kenneth Nyhusmoen will officiate with burial at Fairview Memorial Gardens.
Visitation is Wednesday afternoon and evening at Vertins and again on Thursday until the time of services.
Jesse James Babbitt was born Jan. 7, 1889 at St. Augustine, Ill., to Edwin and Clara Marie (Johnson) Babbitt. He was raised in Illinois and attended local schools there. He married Marie Turner in 1913 in Illinois.
He served in the U.S. Army in France during World War I. After his discharge he came to Richland County and farmed in Dwight Township. He retired in 1948 and continued living on the farm until 1970 when he moved to the Wahpeton Retirement Center.
He was a member of the Wahpeton V.F.W.
He is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Harry (Alice) Grinager, Wahpeton; two grandsons; Harvey, Wahpeton; Merle, Grants Pass, Ore.; and four great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, nine brothers and sisters.
