Obituary
Helen J. Berger, 62, Wahpeton, died Wednesday, March 5, 1986, at Sebring, Fla. The funeral service will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Bethel Lutheran Church, Wahpeton, with Rev. Marvin L. Hartmann officiating. Interment will be Fairview Memorial Gardens, Wahpeton.
Visitation will be Monday afternoon and evening in the chapel of Vertin's Wahpeton Funeral Home, with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. There will also be visitation at the church one hour to the service.
Helen Joan Bakken was born October, 25, 1923, at Christine, N.D., to Alfred and Hannah (Moe) Bakken. She attended school at Fairmount and graduated from high school at Wheaton, Minn. She was united in marriage to A.B. (Ben) Berger Sept. 27, 1941 at Wheaton. The couple lived in Herman, Minn. Mrs. Berger moved back to Wheaton to live with her father while Mr. Berger served in the U.S. Armed Forces. Following the war, the couple moved to Wahpeton where he worked as a mechanic. They had maintained a winter home in Florida for the past two years.
She was a member of VFW Post 4324 ladies auxiliary and Ladies Circle No. 1 of Bethel Lutheran Church.
Survivors include her husband, Ben; four sons, David, Hutchinson, Minn.; Scott, Grand Forks; Kraig and Kevin, both rural Wahpeton; two daughters, Mrs. Coleen Wood, Adrian, Mich.; Mrs. Pamela Johnson, rural Wahpeton; a brother, Alden Bakken, Wahpeton; two sisters, Mrs. Lenore Goehring, Sugar Grove, Ill.; and Mrs. Blanch Berger, Willmar, Minn.; seven grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

The Garden of the Christus is located in the Memorial Gardens, which comprises the northern half of the cemetery.
