Obituary

Charles Herman Cartrite, 41 years a railroad employee and resident of Wahpeton many years, died Wednesday at the St. Francis Hospital in Breckenridge where he had been a patient the past two weeks. He had been in failing health for more than a year. Funeral service has been set for Sunday at two p. m. from Church here with Elder William Harbour of Fargo officiating. The body will be placed in Fairview masoleum. Vertin Funeral Home of Wahpeton is handling arrangements.

Born July 26, 1888, in North Carolina, he spend his boyhood and attended schools the South but when 17 years old came to Marshall Town, Iowa, where he secured employment on the railroad. A short time later he came to Breckenridge.

He married Alice Nichols who died February. 4, 1929. In 1939 he married Esther Rolin and the couple made their home in Wahpeton. He was a member of the Seventh-Day Adventist Church here, the Frontier Masonic Lodge in Breckenridge, and the Brotherhood of Railroad Firemen and Engineers.

Besides his wife he leaves: two daughters, Karen, 11, and Carol, 9 both at home; four brothers, Arthur of Sunray, Texas; Thomas of Canyon, Texas; Earl of Maysville, Mo.; and Thurman of Fort Lyons, Colo.; and two sisters, Mrs. Hester Kirley of Englewood, Colo.; and Mrs. Rose Reece of New Providence, Iowa.

The body will lie in state Saturday afternoon and evening at the Vertin chapel.
