Obituary

RITES HERE YESTERDAY FOR SON OF JAS. CHERRY Dwight School Students Pallbearers for 14-Year-Old Lad Who Died at Hospital Thursday Funeral services were held yesterday afternoon from the First Congregational church for Melvin Cherry, 14-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. James Cherry of Breckenridge, formerly for many years farm residents of Dwight. The Rev. E. A. Allin officiated at the rites and the pallbearers were boys who had attended the Dwight school with the lad. Melvin’s death occurred shortly after 8 o’clock Thursday morning at St. Francis hospital. It was caused by cerebral meningitis, which developed following an operation for mastoid with which the boy had been suffering intensely for some time.

Melvin was born near Kent, Minn., but he had lived practically all his life on the farm south of Dwight, removing only last fall to Breckenridge with other members of the family when his father went there to work in the Great Northern yards. His fourteenth birthday would have been Saturday. Mr. and Mrs. Cherry have several other children besides Melvin.
