Rites Tuesday For Former Resident
Mrs. Amelia Gellert Dies in Chicago
Funeral services were conducted Sunday at 2 p.m. at Chicago and on Tuesday afternoon from the Immanuel Lutheran church here for Mrs. Amelia Gellert, Sr., former County resident for 30 years. Rev. Dreyer will officiate.
Amelia Gellert was born Nov. 30, 1873, at Willow Creek Minn., and when a young woman moved to Swift County, Minn., where she met James H. Cherry. They were married July 14, 1897. To this union were born three children in Swift county, Earle, Pearl and Mabel. In 1902 the family moved to western Minnesota where Elsie, Melvin, and Walter were born. In 1922 they moved to Wahpeton where in 1832 Mr. Cherry preceded her in death.
Amelia Gellert moved to Fairmount, Minn., in 1832 where she made her home with her father, Ernest E. Falk. Several years later she married Fred Gellert, Sr., and moved to Chicago to be near her children, where in June, 1946. Mr. Gellert passed away and since his death she has been making her home with her children.
Mrs. Gellert was an active member of the Bethel Lutheran church of Chicago. She was a loving mother and always cheerful and willing to lend a helping hand to those in need. She had a host of friends who will always cherish her memory.
Of her six children Mrs. E. W. Cronkhite (Pearl), Melvin and a granddaughter, Delorise Jean Hallar, preceded her in death. She leaves to mourn her passing the following children: Earl J. Cherry, Mrs. Wm. (Elsie) Haller and Walter W. Cherry, all of Westmont, Ill., and Mrs. E. J. (Mabel) Rovang, of Fergus Falls and 11 grandchildren and many other relatives and friends who will miss her sadly. Interment will be in Fairview cemetery here.
