W. Crawford Dies Today At Hospital
Funeral service for Walter M. Crawford, pioneer resident of Center township and well known through the county, who died this morning at St. Francis hospital, will be held from Wahpeton Congregational church. Services are at 2:00 p.m.
Walter Mason Crawford was born at Eyota, Minn., November 29, 1874, and came to Richland county as a ad of nine with his parents, the late John and Louisa Crawford. They first came to Great Bend vicinity and two years later bought the present Crawford farm six miles west of Wahpeton. He attended school in this vicinity and in 1915 was united in marriage to Mabel Harborn. They continued to make their home on the Crawford farm, where he built up a fine grain and livestock farm through the years, beautifying the grounds and evergreens and other plantings. He was a member of Wahpeton Congregational church and Wahpeton Masonic Lodge. He had served as Center township supervisor many years.
Mr. Crawford was taken to St. Francis hospital two weeks ago for surgical care. His death occurred this morning at 6:15 o’clock.
Surviving are his wife, two daughters, Mrs. LeRoy Jost (Virginia) and Mrs. Frank Domm (Patricia) both of Wahpeton and three grandchildren. There is one brother Robert Crawford of East Setucket, N.Y. and sister, Mrs. D.L Buckinham of Cops Bay, Ore. Both have visited here on many occasions in the Crawford home.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Mark being the last to die and having been associated with Walter on the farm.
Vertin Funeral home, Wahpeton, is in charge of arrangements. Rev. Frank Hirons will officiate at the final rites and interment will be in the family lot in Fairview Cemetery.
