Obituary

Oscar E. Dahlgren, a city council member for the past eight years and fireman for over 40 years died Saturday evening at St. Francis Hospital where he had been confined.

Funeral services have been scheduled for 10:30 Tuesday at St. John's Catholic Church in Wahpeton with the Rev. George Mehok celebrant. Interment will be in Fairview Cemetery.

Mr. Dahlgren was born Aug. 2, 1901 at Fergus Falls, the son of Oscar and Gerda (Ek) Dahlgren. He moved to Wahpeton with his parents in 1905 where he attended local schools. He married Ida J. Lehman October 18, 1924 at Fergus Falls.

For several years he operated a Dray Line before taking employment at the North Dakota State School of Science where he was superintendent of grounds and buildings. He retired in 1967 after 39 years service.

He was a member of St. John's Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus, was a 40 year member of the Wahpeton Fire Department and lad served as Chief. He had served on the Wahpeton City Council for eight years.

He is survived by his wife; two sons and three daughters, Charles of Wahpeton, Edward of Breckenridge, Mrs. Ersoll (Anges) Runyon of Fairbury Ill., Mrs. Edward (JoAnn) Jordan of Arlington Heights, Ill., Mrs. Howard (Maxine) Daeley of Long Beach, Calif.; 24 grandchildren; four sisters, Mrs. Edwin (Gerda) Score of Colfax, Mrs. Augie (Evelyn) Olm of Two Harbors, Minn., Mrs. Donald (Agnes) Fisher of Waseca, Minn., and Mrs. Lee (Lillian) Hendershot of Ana Cortes, Wash.

He was preceded in death by a son, Donald, in 1966; three brothers and two sisters.

Honorary casket bearers will be John Diederich, Lloyd Keech, Edward Wacha, William Sturma, William Hektner and William Lundgren. Active casket bearers will be Arnold Kline, William Meyenburg, Merle Hoppert, Lawrence Nater, Clyde Matheson and William Giesen.

Visitation will be Monday afternoon and evening at Vertin's-Wahpeton East Chapel with a Bible Vigil Service at 8 and a Rosary will be recited by the Knights of Columbus at 8:30.
