Funeral services for Dr. Ralph W. Darner. who died Thursday at St. Francis hospital were conducted Sunday afternoon at Vertin Funeral home with Dr. S. G. Schick officiating. Interment was in Fairview cemetery.

Dr. Darner was the father of Dr. Charles B. Darner, Fargo physician. With his wife he had come to Wahpeton from his home Chicago to spend the summer with a sister-in-law, Miss Donna Forkner. He had been in failing health for some time.

Dr. Darner was born at Springfield, Ohio, and attended schools there. He received a bachelor of science degree at Wittenberg College, Ohio; a master's degree at Ohio State University, and a doctor's degree in science at University of Michigan.

An accomplished violinist, Dr. Darner had played with the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra during college vacations. He came to North Dakota in 1909 to teach chemistry at the State School of Science, also coaching the football team two successful seasons.

Afterwards he joined the staff of NDAC, being professor of chemistry from 1912 until 1916. Resigning from the faculty he went to Cleveland, Ohio, in management and research work in the paint industry, later going to Chicago. He was with Sears Roebuck and Co., until retiring and had since been a consultant in the paint chemistry field.

In 1921 he was elected first president of the Chicago Paint and Varnish Club and later was honored by being given a life membership in the U. S. Paint and Varnish Association.

He married Mabel Forkner while teaching here. Besides his wife and his son he leaves three grandchildren.
