Obituary

Mrs. R. Darner Dies Tuesday; Services Set

Mrs. Ralph W. (Mabel) Darner Wahpeton, died Tuesday at St. Francis Hospital in Breckenridge.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Vertin’s-Wahpeton Chapel. Rev. Frank Hirons officiating. Interment will be in Fairview Cemetery.

Mabel Forkner was born at Bath, S.D. to parents William and Margaret Forkner. She came to Wahpton as a child with her parents who operated a general store here. She graduated from Wahpeton High School and attended Northwestern University studying music, voice and piano.

She married Ralph W. Darner on June 14, 1910. They lived in Wahpeton for one year while Mr. Darner taught at State School of Science. In 1911, they moved to Fargo where Mr. Darner taught chemistry at North Dakota State University for two years. Later they went to Cleveland, Ohio. And other cities where Mr. Darner was a commercial chemist. They returned to Wahpeton in 1950 and Mr. Darner died that same year. Mrs. Darner continued to live in Wahpeton.

She was a member of the United Church of Christ, Auxiliary, Literary Club, and Zonta International Club.

Surviving one sister, Miss Donna Forkner, Wahpeton and three grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a son, Dr. Charles Darner of Fargo in 1963.

Serving as pallbearers will be M.B. Zimmerman, Al Petersen, Ray Moss, Roger Bramel, Warren Schuett and Landon Petersen.

Vertin’s Wahpeton Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Organist will be Mrs. F. D. Brown. Included in the quartet to sing are Mrs. Clarence Amundson, Glen Hoppert, Mrs. Ralph Sommers, and Sam Farlow.
