W.L. Divet Dies Here Suddenly Sunday Evening

City Attorney Victim of Heart Attack At His Home

W.L. Divet, prominent Wahpeton lawyer, died at 6:30 Sunday evening following a heart attack.

While he had not been well for a number of years, his illness was not considered to be of such a nature as to prevent his carrying on his work and his death was unexpected and untimely. He was stricken at home and died at the St. Francis Hospital a few hours later. Funeral service will be Thursday at 2 p.m.

He was born near Great Bend on June 19, 1884 and was married to Ida Hanson at Minneapolis August 17, 1912. He is survived by his wife and three daughters, Mrs. Ben Matzek, Bristol, Tenn.; Dorothy, at Bristol, and Patty, at home.

He is also survived by two granddaughters, one of them born on the same day that he died. Walter Louis Divet was city attorney at the time of his death. He was states attorney of Richland county 18 years ago and had served as assistant states attorney on two occasions. He was secretary of the Richland County Oil Company and had conducted a bearing business here as well as having extensive real estate holdings in the city.

W. L. Divet worked as a court reporter with Judge Allan at Lisbon for eight years. Later he was employed in the law offices of the late Senator W. E. Purcell. Mr. Divet was admitted to the bar by examination 23 years ago. Mr. Divet was widely and favorably known. He was a member of the AOUW as well as of the Congregational Church.

Funeral services will be from the Congregational Church with Rev. Hartman officiating. Pallbearers will be E Lislegad, Frank Rehm, Henry Rustad, W. A. Farnsworth, Max Lauder and Arnold Olson. Members of the Richland county bar will be honorary pallbearers.

The body is at Schmitt and Olson funeral chapel.
