Funeral Set for Sunday for D. C. Deede, 74, Wahpeton

Funeral services will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. from Immanuel Lutheran church, Wahpeton for Diedrick C. Deede, 74, lifetime Richland county resident, who died Tuesday at his home here.

Rev. Henry Fry will be the officiating clergyman. Interment will be at Fairview Memorial Gardens.

Diedrick C. Deede was born in Summit township, May 12,1888, the son of Diedrick and Katrine (nee Holthusen) Deede. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith by the late Rev. Theo Hinck in Great Bend. He attended rural schools and the State School of Science.

On Oct 30, 1912, he was married to Ross Reinke. They farmed at Warwick, N.D., and Dumont, Minn., before returning to rural Wahpeton where they farmed until retirement in 1949 when they moved to Wahpeton. Mr. Deede worked as a carpenter for a time after retirement.

Mr. Deede served as Center township assessor, clerk and on the school board. He was a lifetime member of the Immanuel Lutheran church served on the church council and was a member of the Lutheran Laymen’s League.

Survivors include his wife, Rora; two sons, Marvin J., Davenport, Ia., and Robert E., Wahpeton; one daughter, Mrs. Melvin K. (Novella) Erickson Fargo, seven grandchildren, and two great grandchildren.

Also surviving are three brothers, Frank, Saline, Mich.; Ernest, Lake City, Minn., and Herman Fargo; and two sisters Mrs. Christine Zentgraf, Fargo, and Mrs. Carl (Anna) Koppelman, Wahpeton.

Active pallbearers will be George Vollmers, Elmer Vollmers, Ewald Koppelman, Herb Koppelman, Gerald Deede and Jerome Coffey.

Honorary Pallbearers include John Wiebusch, John Holthusen, William Tribke, Henry Hauschild, John Brinkman, William Matheson, Henry Steffens, Henry Fenske, Stanley Beach, Arthur Rufener, Dick Holthusen, and George W. Holthusen.

Vertin’s-Wahpeton Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

The Garden of the Christus is located in the Memorial Gardens, which comprises the northern half of the cemetery.
