Obituary

Elmer DeVries Dies Sunday

Funeral services for Elmer DeVries, 59, of Wahpeton will be 10:30 Wednesday in Immanuel Lutheran Church with the Rev. Edward J. Rutter officiating. Interment will be in Fairview Memorial Gardens at Wahpeton. Mr. DeVries died unexpectedly Sunday morning at St. Francis Hospital.

Honorary pallbearers will be Lester Ward, Roy Ward, Ralph Ward, and Gordon Zach.

Active pallbearers will be James Pelvit, Willard Pelvit, Robert Reul, Donald Ward, Dale DeVries and Fred Zach.

Visitation will be after 4 pm. Tuesday in Vertin’s-Wahpeton East Chapel with a prayer service at 8 p.m.

Mr. DeVries was born Oct. 22, 1909 at Dwight, N.D., the son of Jacob and Gazine (Dierks) DeVries. He began working for the Great Northern Railway in 1926 and was presently working as a fuel oil pumper at Minot, N.D. He was a member of the Maintenance of Way Brotherhood. He married Inez Keeney on May 27, 1937, at Breckenridge and they have resided in Wahpeton since their marriage.

He is survived by his wife; two daughters and two sons, Mrs. Dale (Barbara) Couillard of Pelican Rapids, Minn., Mrs. Elroy (Connie) Smith, Gene and James, all of Wahpeton.

Two brothers, Edward of Wahpeton, Henry of Breckenridge; two sisters, Mrs. William (Katherine) Blume of Wadena, Minn., Mrs. Albert (Lena) Pelvit of Kent, Minn., and six grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one brother, John, and three sisters, Mrs. Anna Ward, Mrs. Elizabeth Zach and Mrs. August Reul.
