Obituary
John G. Dierks, 83, Wahpeton, Dies; Rites Saturday
John G. Dierks, 83, retired Great Northern employer and longtime Wahpeton resident died Wednesday at a local hospital. He has been hospitalized ten days. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. from Immanuel Lutheran church, Wahpeton. Rev. Henry Fry officiating. Interment will be at Fairview Memorial Gardens.
A prayer service will be held Friday evening at 9 p.m. at Vertin’-Wahpeton Chapel
John Gerhard Dierks was born Feb. 2, 1880 at Aldenburg, Germany. He came to the United States when he was 17 coming first to Iowa. Later he farmed near Sisseton, S.D.
He married Mary Heinecke, May 12, 1907, at Sisseton. They moved to Wahpeton in 1922 and Mr. Dierks was employed at the Great Northern roundhouse in Breckenridge. He retired in 1952 after 30 years of service. Mrs. Dierks died March 28, 1957.
Mr. Dierks had been a resident of the St. Francis Home the past five years.
Surviving are two sons, Frederich, Fargo and Ervin A., Wahpeton; seven daughter, Mrs. Melvin (Anna) Larsen, Breckenridge; Mrs. Stanley (Dora) Osmundson, Hopkins, Minn.; Minnie and Phyllis, San Diego, Calif.; Mrs. Bernard (Evelyn) Pedde, San Diego; Mrs. Oscar (Agnes) Schaunaman, Sisseton and Mrs. Lester (Mary) Berg Hopkins, Minn.; 12 grandchildren and eight grandchildren.
Besides his wife he was preceded in death by one daughter, Mrs. Gustav (Leona) Newman who died in 1940.
Organist will be Mrs. William Enochson and vocalist will be Mrs. Arnold Pankow.
Honorary pallbearers were Clarence Hooge, Irvin Kent, Earl Caulkins, Andrew Olson, Louis Prochaska, William Eckes and Olaf Olson.
Active pallbearers were Lloyd Schaunaman, John Schaunaman, Stanley Osmondson, Roy Eades, Harley Deutsch and Walter Aschwege. Vertin’s-Wahpeton was in charge of arrangements.
