Obituary
Martin Dorr Rites Monday
Martin Dorr, 91, of 521 South First Street, Wahpeton, died Thursday at St. Francis Hospital. Funeral services were held Monday in Bethel Lutheran Church in Wahpeton with the Rev. Lyle Peterson officiating. Mrs. Horace Lahren was the organist and Lyle Jacobson was the vocalist. Interment will be in Fairview Memorial Gardens. Vertin's-Wahpeton Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Casket bearers were Mel Sherva, Oscar Lee, Lyle Mitzel, Floyd Swenson, Andrew Olson and Elmer Nordine.
Mr. Dorr was born in Minnesund, Norway, Jan. 2, 1879, and was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith in Norway. He came to Red Wing, Minn., when a young boy. He lived there for three years before moving to New Rockford, N. D. He married Clara Bakke Nov. 2, 1906, at New Rockford. He and his wife and 12 people met the Dorr home for church services at New Rockford and this group later were charter members of the First Lutheran Church there. Mr. Dorr was the last charter member of the church.
He farmed at New Rockford, operated a livery stable and was deputy sheriff. The couple moved to Breckenridge in 1945 and to Wahpeton in 1951. Mrs. Dorr died in 1960. After her death, Mr. Dorr had resided and was cared for in the home of his nephew, Oscar Brandt, of Wahpeton, who survives with another nephew, Gunnar Brandt of Breckenridge and 15 nieces and nephews in Norway.
He was preceded in death by his wife, three brothers and two sisters.
