Oscar F. Elo, Tailor Here For Many Years, Dies

Oscar F. Elo, who operated a tailor shop and dry cleaning establishment in Wahpeton for 30 years died Sunday in the Wahpeton Rehabilitation Center where he and Mrs. Elo lived the past two years.

He was born in Finland and came to the United States to Aberdeen, S. D., as a young man. He and Maren Ruud were united in marriage at Aberdeen, July 26, 1905. They marked their Golden Wedding anniversary here this summer.

Following their marriage the settled at Groton, S.D., where he operated a tailor shop until 1922 when they moved to Ellendale. The next year they came to Wahpeton where he established Elo’s Taylor Shop which they operated until retiring in 1953. He was employed by the Rubertus Clothing Co. until two years ago.

Mr. and Mrs. Elo were both professional tailors, having learned the trade in their native countries of Finland and Norway.

Surviving besides Mrs. Elo, are a son, Maurice, of Los Angeles, Calif., and a daughter Mrs. T. H. (Margret) Golberg of Fargo; five grandchildren and a great granddaughter.

A daughter, Marian, died in 1926.

Funeral services will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. in the Vertin Funeral home chapel in Wahpeton, with Rev. P.A. Gisvold officiating. Interment will be in Fairview Cemetery.

Mrs. Elo was a long time member of the I.O.O.F. lodge here. Member of the lodge will act as pallbearers.
