Obituary
Melvin Evenson Lifelong Richland Resident Dies
Melvin Evenson, 68, lifelong resident of the Mooreton community, died Sunday morning at the Wahpeton Rehabilitation Center where he had resided since last May.
The funeral will be Thursday at 2 p.m. in the Mooreton Lutheran church with Rev. H.E. Rassmussen, Jr., officiating, and Vertin Funeral Home of Wahpeton in charge. Interment will be in Fairview Memorial Gardens in Wahpeton.
Pallbearers will be Arthur Osmundson, Alvin Lund, Carl Bladby, Melvin Johnson, Leslie Bossman and John Skovholt. Mrs. Ernest Huss will play and Mrs. H. E. Rasmussen Mrs. Clayton Egenes, and Mrs. Walter Carlson will sing.
Friends may call at the Vertin Funeral Home Wednesday afternoon and evening until 11 a.m. Thursday.
He was born Feb. 7, 1981 in Mooreton township, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Ole Evenson. He attended schools there, the State School of Science in Wahpeton and was confirmed in the Dwight church by Rev. Rorstad.
He farmed with his brother, Helmer until 1934, when he moved to farm a mile west of Wahpeton. In 1954 he retired and built a home in Mooreton. Mr. Evenson was never married. He was a member of the Mooreton Lutheran church and had served as assessor in Mooreton township for many years.
Surviving are two sisters, Mrs. Clara Bakken of Long Beach, Calif., and Mrs. Ethel Simonsen of Alta Dena, Calif.; three brothers, Helmer of Wahpeton, Edwin of Dwight and Dr. Harry Evenson of Sacred Heart, Minn. Besides his parents, two sisters, Mrs. Mathilda Zackerson and Mrs. Ida Gilbertson preceded him in death.
