Death Follows Severe Heart Attack Week Ago At Her Home In Minneapolis Funeral Services were held this Monday afternoon in Minneapolis for Mrs. Sara Rich Falley, former Wahpeton resident whose death occurred last Friday.
Mrs. Sara Rich Falley, one of the earliest pioneers in Wahpeton died in Minneapolis Friday morning, December 2nd. She was seventy-five years of age. Her death followed a severe heart attack a week ago. While it was realized that her condition was serious her passing was not expected until early Friday morning.
Sara Rich was the youngest daughter of M. T. Rich, who was the founder of Wahpeton, she was born in Reeds Landing, Minn., Dec 20, 1861, and came with her parents to what is now Wahpeton. She grew up here and received much of her schooling in the very earliest schools of Wahpeton and Breckenridge.
She married John Pyatt, an early-day attorney. After his passing she returned to her parent’s home. In 1890 she married Fred Falley, then Secretary of State. To this marriage one son Morgan R. Falley, now of Minneapolis survives her. She is also survived by her step-son Richard Falley of Sarasota, Fla.; and two nieces, Mrs. Hazel Orcutt Michkils and Mrs. Jessie Orcutt Puckett of Seattle, Wash., and Menomome, Wisc., respectively.
After Mr. Falley’s death in 1907, her mother Mrs. Rich and sister Caroline made their home with her son until Mrs. Rich died in 1919. Mrs. Falley and her son and sister then moved to Minneapolis where they have since resided. Miss Rich passed away in 1936 and her other sister Mrs. Orcutt, died in Seattle in 1934. The funeral service was held in Minneapolis today (Monday) and the remains are to be cremated in accordance with an often expressed wish. The ashes will probably be interred in Fairview cemetery in the near future. Rites Held for Mrs. Sara Falley
Interment rites were held at Fairview cemetery Monday morning at 9:30 and the ashes of Mrs. Sara Rich Falley, pioneer Wahpeton resident, laid to rest in the family lot. Her death occurred during the winter at her home in Minneapolis. Only immediate friends of the family were present at the service which was read by Mrs. W. A. Farnsworth, second reader in the Christian Science church in this city. Morgan R. Falley, of Minneapolis, was present at the service of his mother.
