Frank Flatten Dies in St. Louis, Last Rites Here
Six comrades from Company I will bear Frank Flatten who died Tuesday to his final resting place in Fairview Cemetery following services at Vertin Funeral home, Saturday at 2 p.m. The 48 year old man died in St Louis, where he had been located since leaving Wahpeton six years ago.
With Company I in World War II the local man went to New Caledonia and then to Guadalcanal, where he was wounded and went back to the United States with his leg in bad shape. He later entered the postal service here.
He is survived by a brother, James Flatten, Minneapolis, a sister Mrs. Clarence (Vivian) Halstenson, Mooreton. Martin Peterson of this city is an uncle.
VFW post will have charge of the military rites. Pallbearers will be Alfred Sundeen, Ira Keeney, Clarence Schfer, Arnold Kline, Woodrow Keeble, Glenn Hoppert.
Frank Flatten, son of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Flatten was born at Wahpeton, November 8, 1909. He attended local schools graduating from Wahpeton High school.
He was employed for several years at the Wahpeton Shoe Hospital before leaving with Company I in 1941 serving as a sergeant and receiving the purple heart for wounds from a mortar shell.
He was a charter member of the VFW in Wahpeton.
