Mrs. Farlow and Granddaughter Die In Wisconsin Auto Accident

Mrs. Roberta (Sam J.) Farlow was killed in an auto accident near Shell Lakes, Wis., at 9:30 Sunday evening. Her month-old granddaughter, Jana Sue Liesenfelt was killed in the same accident and Mr. Farlow, hurt in the same accident is in a Duluth hospital in critical condition. He was moved the hospital at Shell Lake to Duluth on Monday by air ambulance. Double funeral services will be conducted Friday at 2 p.m., from the Congregational church for Mrs. Farlow and her granddaughter, Rev. Frank Hirons will officiate. The daughter, Mrs. Harold Liesenfelt (Janet Farlow) was injured in the same accident but not critically.

Mr. and Mrs. Farlow were the owners of Farlows Ready-to-Wear store here. The purchased the store in 1948 from the Olson Sisters. Mrs. Farlow was a member of the Order of Eastern Star and of the Congregational Church of which she was a Deaconness. She was active in the operation of the store here.

Roberta Thompson was born August 7, 1902, at Willow City, N.D., the daughter of Alexander and Ellen Thompson. Her father was treasurer of Rollette county and latter postmaster at Rolla. She attended school there and attended the University of North Dakota.

She taught school for two years and was married to Sam J. Farlow March 24, 1926, at Rolla. The couple lived at Shell Lake, Wis., a few years and then at Grand Island, Neb. They were at Bottineau, N.D., for over 12 years before coming to Wahpeton in 1947.

She is survived by her daughter Mrs Hold (Janet) Liesenfelt, and her son, Sam Jr., of LaCrosse, Wis., six sisters and two brothers, Miss Irene Thompson, Alpena, Mich., Mrs. James Fair, Grand Forks, N.D., Mrs. Raymond Law, Rollette, N.D., Miss Vida Thompson, Wahpeton, Mrs. John Lacey, Sarasota, Fla., Mrs. Bessie Berg, Alpena, Mich., Lincoln A. Thompson, Canton, Ohio and Dr. Milton Thompson, Cambridge, Ohio.

Little Jane Sue is the only child of Mrs. And Mrs. Harold Liesenfelt. She is survived by her parents.

The bodies were brought to Vertin-Schmitt-Poulton Funeral home here on Monday from Shell Lake. Burial will be in Fairview Memorial Gardens at Wahpeton.
