Obituary
Erich Fenske Dies Friday; Funeral Services Wednesday
Erick A. Fenske, 73, who resided at 416 Cottonwood Court, Wahpeton, died unexpectedly Friday at the home of his brother in Pasadena, Calif. Funeral services will be held at 2 Wednesday in the Immanuel Lutheran Church at Wahpeton with the Rev. Edward J. Rutter officiating. Mrs. William Enochson will be the organist and Alvin Hepper will be the vocalist. Interment will be in Fairview Memorial Gardens at Wahpeton.
Casket bearers will be his sons, Harold, Melvin, Orville, Marvin and Lawrence Fenske, and his son-in-law, Aulden Olson.
Visitation will be Tuesday afternoon and evening with a prayer service at 8 p.m. and until 11 a.m. Wednesday at Vertin's-Wahpeton Chapel and at the church one hour prior to services.
Mr. Fenske was born June 26, 1897, at Algona, Iowa, the son of August and Helen (Moltz) Fenske. He moved with his parents to Raymond, Minn., when he was 11 years old. He came to the Great Bend area in 1916 where he farmed. He married Verna Rhoda Dec. 18, 1918, at Raymond and the couple farmed in Brandenburg Township near Great Bend until 1965 when they moved to Wahpeton. While living at Great Bend, he was active in the Trinity Lutheran Church and served in several church offices. After moving to Wahpeton, he joined the Immanuel Lutheran Church. He served on the Board of Directors of the Home Mutual Insurance Company for over 30 years and was serving as its president at the time of his death. He also had served as township assessor for many years.
He is survived by his wife; five sons and one daughter, Harold, Melvin and Marvin, all of Hankinson, Orville of Saginaw, Mich., Lawrence of Sylvania, Ohio, Mrs. Aulden (Irene) Olson of Rapid City, S.D.; 20 grandchildren; and five brothers, Waldemer of Wahpeton, August of Willmar, Minn., Albert of Ossian, Iowa, Henry of Pasadena, Calif., and Reinhold of Syosset, N.Y.
He was preceded in death by three sisters and two brothers, Erna, Ida, Louise, Martin and Ernest.
