Obituary

Former Pastor To Be Buried Here

Rev. E. D. Gallagher, One Congregational Minister in Wahpeton. Died Tuesday Mr. and Mrs. R. T. Barber with Mr. and Ms. Dan R. Jones were called to Hancock, Minn., Tuesday by a wire announcing the death there that morning of Rev. E. D. Gallagher, who with his wife and family was a resident of Wahpeton; they endeared themselves in the heart of the community during the period of six and one half years that Mr. Gallagher served as pastor of First Congregational church here, closing in 1911.

Mr. Gallagher had just terminated a six years pastorate at Waseca, Minn., and accepted a call to Hancock, Minn., removing there but two weeks ago with every prospect of another period of happy service. While lately not in the most robust health his death came unexpectedly. Mrs. Gallagher of the family, was with him at the time. Their eldest son Merle, is at present principal of the high school at Great Falls, Montana. Buel, after graduating from Union Theological Seminary, spent two years in Europe studying. This scholarship that he had won. Wernon is within a large mercantile establishment in St. Paul; Melvin, the youngest son, is a senior at Carlton College. Their only daughter, Helen, passed away in 1923 while serving as a missionary in China. Many of the younger business and social groups of this community preserve pleasant recollections of their association with these young people while all were in attendance in the Wahpeton schools. Mr and Mrs Gallagher because of their residence in Wahpeton for so long a period had thought of Wahpeton as home and of the Wahpeton and Richland County people as their home folks. Because of this it has been decided to bring back the body of Rev. Gallagher to be laid to rest in Fairview Cemetery. Funeral services will be held at First Congregational church here Friday, October 31, at 1:30 pm thus enabling all local friends of the Gallagher family to pay their last respects to the deceased.
