Herman P. Gast Dies on Saturday After Long Illness
Came To Summit Township With His Parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Gast, in 1882 Married Martha Stoltenow, at Great Bend in 1890
Funeral Services to be Conducted Here Wednesday And Burial In Fairview Cemetery
Herman Gast, well known farmer of this vicinity died Saturday at his home. Funeral Services are to be conducted on Wednesday from Immanuel church and from the home and interment will be in Fairview cemetery.
Herman Peter Frank Ludwig Gast was born in Richardson, Neb., June 4, 1879, the son of Mr. and Mrs. John Gast, was confirmed Dec. 17, 1893 in the Evangelical Lutheran church at Great Bend by Rev. T. Hinck.
With his parents, he came to North Dakota in 1892, and the family settled in Summit twp. On Nov. 1st, 1890, he was married to Martha Stoltenow at Great Bend. Rev. T. Hinck officiating. They made their home on a farm near Great Bend until 1916, when they moved to the vicinity of Wahpeton where they have lived ever since.
To this union were born eleven children, all of whom survive him.
Ever since moving to Wahpeton he has been a member of Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran church. For the past years, Mr. Gast had been in poor health and he passed away at his home early Saturday morning, Nov. 5, at the ae of 59 years, 5 months and 1 day.
He leaves to mourn his passing, his wife six sons and five daughters; Mrs. Ludwig (Ella) Matt, Wahpeton; Walter Willmar, Minn.; Herman, Richard, Edward, Herbert and Leonard, Wahpeton; Mrs. Lester (Leona) Ward, Mooreton; Mrs. Wallace (Lucile) Olson, Wahpeton; and Myra and Helen, at home, also eleven grandchildren. He is also survived by three brothers, John, Wm., and Albert of Summit twp.
Rev R. J. Becker, will officiate at the funeral services. Pallbearers will be six sons, Walter, Herman, Richard, Edward, Herbert and Leonard Gast. Honorary pallbearers will be C. F. Mittag, T. K. Williams, Carl Glander, Julius Smith, Elmer Ward and Andrew Olson.
