Obituary

Mrs. Herman Gehler Dies; Funeral Services Thursday

Mrs. Herman (Justine) Gehler, 88, of Wahpeton died Monday evening at St Francis Hospital in Breckenridge. Funeral services will be held at 2 Thursday in the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Wahpeton with Rev. Edward J. Rutter officiating. Mrs. William Enochson will be the organist and will accompany the Immanuel Ladies’ Choir. Interment will be in Fairview Cemetery in Wahpeton.

Visitation will be Wednesday afternoon and evening at Vertin’s-Wahpeton Funeral Home and from 1 to 2 Thursday at the church. There will be a prayer service t 8 Wednesday evening at Vertin’s Chapel.

Pallbearers will be Larry Gehler, Norman Fenske, Duane Boehning, Bruce Hoefs, Melvin Buck and Russell Kath.

Mrs. Gehler was born Feb. 17, 1879 at Great Bend, N.D., the daughter of John and Justine Stoltenow. She was raised and attended school there and married Herman Gehler Nov. 1, 1901 at Great Bend. The couple farmed in the Great Bend vicinity until retiring and moving to Wahpeton in 1944. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in November 1951. Mr. Gehler died Oct. 15, 1954 and she continued to reside in Wahpeton. Until the death of her sister Mrs. Martha Gast, on Sept. 23, 1966. Mrs. Gehler and Mrs. Gast were the oldest twins in North Dakota. Mrs. Gehler was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church.

Surviving are two sons, Ewald of Great Bend and Theodore of Wahpeton; five daughters, Mrs. Waldemar (Lena) Fenske, Mrs. Lawrence (Alma) Hoefs and Mrs. Ralph (Ethel) Wurl.
