Mrs. J. Walter Green Buried Here Saturday
Well Known Former Wahpeton Woman Passes Away After Long Illness
Funeral services were conducted here on Saturday afternoon from Bethel Lutheran church for Mrs. J. Walter Green, former Wahpeton lady, who passed away at ten Wednesday evening at Minneapolis after a lengthy illness. Burial was in Fairview cemetery here, Rev. Gisvold officiated.
Mary I. Lerum was born at Crookston, Minn., January 18, 1881. She received her education there and resided with her parents until her parents moved to Alma, Wis. She then resided with her brothers and sisters and friends until 1911 when she came to Wahpeton to engage in the millinery business which she continued until her marriage to J. Walter Green on December 20, 1911.
They resided in Wahpeton until 1933 when they moved to Glenwood, Minn., to make their home. Mrs. Green had been in poor health for some time and during the past year her condition has been critical. She received care in the hospital at Starbuck, Minn., being taken to Minneapolis where everything possible was done to cure her and relieve her suffering. She underwent two major operations at Minneapolis during the past few months.
She passed away Wednesday. Mr. Green as well as other friends were with her at the end. Mrs. Green was a member of the Wahpeton Order Eastern Star and was the recipient of rememberances from the chapter during her illness. She is survived by her husband, two sisters, Mrs. E. P. Bancroft, Minot, Mrs. Christ Barly, Mizpah, Minn., and four brothers Christ and Frank of Crookston, Minn., Phillip of Proctor, Minn, and William of Durand, Wis., and a sister-in-law Mrs. Anna Lerum of Crookston.
Pallbearers were Martin Hatlie, Carl Gauslow, Wallace Morden, E. L. Kaatz, P.A. Peschel and Clifford Schneller. Schmitt and Olson directed the services.
