Ewald Gehler

GREAT BEND - Ewald F. C. Gehler, 70, of Great Bend died Saturday at his home of an apparent heart attack. The funeral will be 2 Tuesday in the Trinity Lutheran Church at Great Bend with the Rev. Raymond Albrecht. Organist will be Mrs. Herbert Weiss and special music will be by the Trinity Lutheran Choir. Interment will be in Fairview Memorial Gardens.

Visitation will be Monday afternoon and evening with a prayer service at 8 at Vertin's-Wahpeton Funeral Home and Tuesday at the church prior to services.

Casket bearers will be Norman Fenske, Bruce Hoefs, Duane Boehning, Harold and Lloyd Bohn and Delmer Witt.

Mr. Gehler was born Oct. 18, 1902, at Great Bend, the son of Herman and Justine (Stoltenow) Gehler. He attended local schools and was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Faith. He married Martha Witt June 14, 1934, in St. John's Church in Belford Township. The couple farmed in the Great Bend area. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and held various church offices and was a past member of the school board.

He is survived by his wife; one son and one daughter, Larry, on the home farm, Mrs. John (Arlis) Parker of Faribault, Minn.; six grandchildren; one brother and five sisters, Theodore, Mrs. Ealter (Lena) Fenske, Mrs. Clarence (Alma) Hoefs and Mrs. Ralph (Ethel) Wurl, all of Wahpeton, Mrs. Ewald (Bertha) Boehning and Mrs. Robert (Lillie) Witt, both of Hankinson.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one son in infancy; and two grandchildren in infancy.
