Obituary
Mrs. Gunvaldson Funeral Services Held in Mooreton
Last rites were conducted on Mrs. Julia Gunvaldson, 82, mother of Mrs. Melvin Johnson of Mooreton. Services were in the with Rev. H. E. Rasmussen officiating. Mrs. Ernest Huss was organist. Pallbearers were Clarence and Hilman Halstenson, Robert Ford, Gerald Olson and Nels and John Skovholt Interment was in the Wahpeton Memorial Gardens.
Mrs. Gunvaldson died Saturday in a Mayville hospital after a short illness.
Rites were held in the Mayville Lutheran Church Tuesday with Rev. Spande officiating. Thorman Groth sang and Mrs. George Morey accompanied Marcus and Harold Moen, Arthur Selmer Harold and Ingvold Braaten.
The former Julia Moen was born at Black Earth, Wisc., Nov 1, 1874. Her parents were Gilbert and Gertrude Moen.
In 1878 her father with his brother started for the Dakota Territory. They spent one year in Iowa and came to Trail county in 1879. Her father homesteaded six miles north of Mayville where she lived to womanhood.
She attended rural schools. The first being in the sod house which had been their first home. She later attended Mayville Normal and taught several years. In 1896-97 she taught in Barney Township.
In 1901 she homesteaded near Carpio where she lived after the marriage in 1902 to John Gunvalson. While there she assisted in organizing the present St John’s Ladies Aid.
In 1911 she returned to Mayville where she has lived, except for the time spent with her daughter Mrs. Melvin Johnson.
