Obituary

Mrs. Hammer Funeral Service Set Wednesday

Mrs. Simon (Hilma) Hammer, 69, longtime resident of Richland County, died Sunday in St Francis hospital. She had been in failing health for a time. Funeral service will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. in the Bethel Lutheran Church here with Rev P.A. Gisvold officiating and interment in Fairview Cemetery. Vertin Funeral Home of Wahpeton is handling arrangements.

She was born in Malmo Smaland, Sweden, July 23, 1888, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Otto Isackson, and came to the United States with her parents when five years old. They homesteaded near Galchutt where she attended schools and grew to womanhood.

In 1906, she was united in marriage to Paul Halvorson, and they left this area to homestead near Sherwood, ND, but returned to Galchutt to farm. Mr. Halvorson was employed by the Great Northern Railway and also at Vertin Furniture store. He died December 31, 1929

In 1936 she married Mr. Hammer and they resided in Wahpeton since.

Mrs. Hammer was an active member of Bethel Lutheran church and recently had been awarded a life membership in the WMF.

Surviving besides Mr. Hammer are: two sons, Melvin and Orthon Halvorson, both of Grand Forks; two brothers, Albin Isackson of Wahpeton and Henning of Colfax; two grandchildren, Darwin Halvorson of Fargo and Paul Halvorson of Grand Forks; and a great-granddaughter, Kristi Halvorson of Fargo.

A brother Gust, proceeded her in death.

Honorary pallbearers: Hans Nygaard, Lars Raftevold, Oscar Anderson, George Quinn, Frank Vertin, Clarence Hooge, Andrew Olson, H. F. Fleishman. Active bearers will be Earl Deans, Arthur C. Johnson, Reuben Johnson, Henry Bakken, Archie Isackson, and William Sturm.
