Obituary

Mrs. John Halvorson Funeral at Bethel Church Saturday

Funeral services for Mrs. John Halvorson, longtime Wahpeton resident who died at Hallock Memorial hospital Tuesday after three days hospitalization, will be held Saturday afternoon from Bethel Lutheran church in this city at two o’clock. Rev P. A. Gisvold, Fargo and Rev. Golf will officiate.

She had been a member of the church since the family moved to Wahpeton in 1917, had taught in Sunday School over thirty years and was a life member of the WMF.

Ellen Peterson Halvorson was born Feb. 8, 1885, daughter of the late Albert and Christine Peterson, at their home in Nansen Township, near Colfax. She grew up and attended school there and later became a dressmaker in Abercrombie.

She was married to John Halvorson Dec. 1, 1905, and they went to Sherwood, N. D. to Homestead. Later they farmed near Colfax in Nansen Township. In 1917 they moved to Wahpeton where her husband was a carpenter. Her husband died in 1950.

She has continued to make her home in Wahpeton. Since October she has been in Hallock, Minn., at the home of her daughter.

She is survived by one son, Arthur J. Halverson of Livonia, Mich., and one daughter, Pearl, Mrs. Melvin O. Sunby, of Hallock; five grandchildren and seven great grandchildren and by one sister, Mrs. John Shellum, of this city. Two daughters preceded her in death as did one brother, Carl Peterson.

Friends may call at Vertin, Schmitt-Poulton North Chapel Friday after 4 p.m., until noon Saturday. Funeral rites ware at 2 p.m., at Bethel and interment will be in Fairview cemetery.
