A. O. Hanson Dies Here Monday After Short Illness

Well Known Resident To Be Buried From Bethel Church Saturday Afternoon

Anton O. Hanson, resident in Wahpeton the past fourteen years passed away at the St. Francis hospital in Breckenridge shortly before six o'clock Monday evening. He had been ill for more than a year, suffering from a heart trouble. Funeral services will be held Saturday afternoon from the Bethel Lutheran church at two o'clock. Rev. J. C. Wisnaes will officiate. Burial will be made in the Fairview cemetery. The body will lie in state at the Schmitt & Olson funeral parlors until ten o'clock Saturday morning when the remains will be taken to the church.

Mr. Hanson was born in Odemark, Norway, May 29, 1856. He was the son of Ole and Bertha (Abrehamson) Hanson who passed away a few year ago. He resided in Norway until the age of sixteen when he came to America.

He came to America in 1872, landing in Quebec, the last of May and at Fairbault, Minn., June 2, of that year. He engaged in farming in Rice county, Minnesota, and continued to reside there until the spring of 1883, when he came to Richland county and purchased one hundred and sixty acres of land. He devoted the greater portion of his life to the pursuit of agriculture in which he was remarkably successful acquiring several acres of land throughout the years.

Mr. Hanson was married in Rice county to Miss Anna Elstad, April 23, 1878, who was also a native of Norway. To this union seven children were born, six of whom are living as follows: Mrs. Wm. Clark (Olive), Calgary, Alberta; Mrs. V. J. Josephson (Belle), Klammath Falls, Ore.; Fred L.. and William O. at Fort Benton, Can.; Mrs. Walter L. Divet (Ida) Wahpeton and Mrs. J. Josephson, (Clara) of Deer Lodge, Mont. Mrs. Hanson passed away in the year of 1925. In 1927 Mr. Hanson married Mrs. Van Buren who with his children survive.

Fourteen year ago Mr. and Mrs. Hanson retired from active farming operations and moved to Wahpeton where they took up their residence in their home on the south side.

Pallbearers are Edward Lesliegard, Hovmand Anderson, Hans Nygard, George Hedner, John Halvorson and Lars Raftevold.
