Rites for Judge Hatlie, 72, To Be Wednesday at Bethel
Funeral services for Judge Martin Hatlie, Richland County Court Judge for 18 years, will be Wednesday at 10 a.m. in Bethel Lutheran Church, Rev. Loyal E. Golf officiating.
Judge Hatlie, 72, died Sunday in St. Francis Hospital. He had been in poor health for several years.
Visitation at Vertin’s Wahpeton Funeral Chapel will be Tuesday afternoon and evening.
Judge Hatlie was born June 13, 1893, at rural Abercrombie, N.D., to parents Nels and Margaret Hatlie. He attended the State School of Science here. After serving in World War I, he worked in several North Dakota banks.
He was married to Annie M. Mickelson Feb 25, 1922. He came here to work as Richland County deputy sheriff in 1926. He served under Sheriff George Swenson. His first wife died in 1936. He was appointed Judge of Richland County Court in 1939 succeeding Judge Parsons. He married Virginia Baker here March 10, 1945.
Judge Hatlie returned in 1957. He was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church, the American Legion 40 et 8, and the Odd Fellows Lodge.
Surviving are his wife, one son, Norton M. Hatlie of Bismarck; four grandchildren; six sisters. Mrs. S N. (Louise) Johnsgaard, Moorhead; Mrs. J. O. (Anna) Brauer, Los Angeles, Calif.; Ida Hatlie, Wahpeton; Mrs. S. B. (Iola) Andrews; Mrs. Oscar (Minnie) Hackey, Colfax and Mrs. Leon Flamshen, Crookston, Minn. and two brothers, Ole of Wahpeton, and Nelius of Colfax.
Mrs. Vernon Hektner will be organist.
The Wahpeton American Legion will present the colors.
Active pallbearers will be nephews. Honorary pallbearers will be Vernon Johnson, Graydon Hatlie, Horace Johnson, Maurice Hatlie, Arthur Lee, and Newell Hackey.
