Obituary
Anna Heinrich-1901
Miss Anna Heinrich Murdered The community was startled Saturday to learn that morning Miss Anna Heimrich, 17 of age, had been shot and instantly killed at the home of her uncle and aunt Mr. and Mrs. John Heimrech a few miles south of the city, by the semblance of a man named Claus Fisher, 32 years of age. The murderer had worked on the farm of Deedrick Deede, half a mile away from Heinrech’s place, the past half dozen years and was considered a good man on the farm.
The girl came from Germany two years ago, when she was 15 years of age. Mrs. Heinrech and Mrs. Deede are sisters. When it was learned two years ago that Mrs. Heinrich’s niece was to come from Germany, the man Fisher took it upon himself to claim the girl as his prospective wife, before she came, though he had never seen her or heard of her till the talk about her coming and it seems the idiot never at any time let upon his unseemly claims and all along persisted in crowding his attentions on to the poor girl, who was by the way a remarkedly well behaved, clever and handsome girl. He was annoying and obnoxious to the girl and out of sheer weariness and the hope to get rid of the persistent idiot, told him one day that, yes, she would marry him, hoping that she would get a rest and finally find some way to get rid of him. But of course this was a mistake. Last January the girl came to town to work in the family of Sherif Moody and many friends of every person who met her. Was a member of the Evangelical Lutheran church where she sang in the choir. This tiresome idiot came to town and to the sheriff’s residence to see the girl one evening, when the latter seeing him at the door shrank from and turning to Mrs. Moody said she wanted nothing whatever to do with the fellow, telling who was Sheriff Moody, who had a talk with the latter making his claim as to the girl’s promise. The sheriff told him of the girl’s feelings and told him to stay way and he promised to do so and did telling others that he was afraid to go to the sheriff’s place, thought the sheriff might thump him. The girl had promised to go home and help her aunt and uncle during the harvest season and kept her word, though remarked leaving the sheriff’s place that she expected to had trouble with Fischer. He must have, taking his gun, gone the Mr. Heinrich’s place and skulled about waiting for an opportunity to see the girl. When all was gone, except the girl, a shot rang out the folks returned to the house finding the girl murdered, having been shot in the back of the head with a shot gun. And it was noticed that Fischer sat on the granary steps with his hand on the lower part of his face which seemed to be wounded. Before the folks returned however, after finding the girl dead, Fischer had finished himself by a second shot and this time practically blew his head off.
The remains of Miss Heinrich were buried Sunday from the Evangelical Lutheran church and the funeral was largely attended, the young lady having been very popular whenever known, and her church people are greatly shocked to think that her beautiful young life must be sacrificed in such an unseemingly manner. The remain of Fischer were buried in Riverside cemetery, by a cousin.
