Mrs. A. Hodel Dies Here on Friday Morning
Pioneer Wahpeton Woman To Be Buried Monday Afternoon from M.E. Church Mrs. A. Hodel, resident in the city of Wahpeton since 1808, died at the Wahpeton hospital Friday morning at six o’clock after an illness which followed an injury received some time ago and from which she did not recover.
Several weeks ago, Ms. Hodel fell and fractured her hip. She was brought to the Wahpeton hospital where she was given the best of care. Complications and old age are believed to be the cause of her death.
Augusta Otto was born February 1, 1856 at Boltenhaugen, Germany. She emigrated to America when she was thirty years of age arriving in Wahpeton shortly afterwards.
In the year of 1888, she married Adolph Hodel and has lived in this city since. She was a kind friend and neighbor and will be greatly missed in the neighborhood in which she has made her home so many years.
Her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Otto Hodel, two brothers and two sisters have preceded her in death.
Surviving her are her husband and sons, Ernest, Herbert and Arthur, all of Wahpeton, and one step-daughter, Anna of San Diego, Calif., and eight grandchildren.
Funeral services were held this Monday afternoon at 2:30 o’clock at the Methodist Episcopal church, Reverend Meier, of Hankinson will officiate. Interment will be made in the Riverside Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Henry Kraker, Math Kraker, H. Schweiser, H. Boetcher, E. Brunner and Carl Popp.
