Funeral Rites Held Sunday for Mrs. Holthusen
Well Known Local Woman Died Friday at Age Of 77 Years
Last rites were conducted Sunday for Mrs. John (Anna) Holthusen Sr., well known Wahpeton woman and resident of Richland county 44 years, who died Friday at her home at 221 South 3rd street. Death was due to a cerebral hemorrhage.
Service were held from the Vertin chapel and the Immanuel Lutheran church with Rev. Henry Fry officiating. Interment was made in the family lot in Fairview cemetery. The Vertin Funeral home of Wahpeton were in charge of the arrangements.
Pallbearers wee Irvin and Clarence Holthusen, Earl and Floyd Hauschild, Harry Koppelman and Alvin Buck.
Anna Buck, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Buck was born in Germany, Feb. 4th, 1874. She came with her parents to the United States when four years old. They settled first at Lake City, Minn., where they resided for several years before moving to Richland county. They settled in Summit township where she attended local schools and grew to womanhood. She married John Holthusen at Great Bend in 1893.
They retired from farming and moved to Wahpeton in 1907. Mr. Holthusen died in 1931.
Mrs. Holthusen, a member of the Immanuel Lutheran church here, had been active in church work all her life and was also a member of the American Legion auxiliary. She had been in ill health the past two years
She leaves four sons: John D., Henry F., George W., and Walter B. Holthusen, all of Wahpeton; four daughters, Mrs. William (Lydia) Tribke, Mrs. Michael (Leona) Fogarty, and Mrs. H.D. (Lillie) Hauschild all of Wahpeton and Mrs. John (Laura) Jung of Tyler; a brother, Dick Buck of Wahpeton, two sisters, Mrs. John Buck and Mrs. Rudolph Schoeneck both of Gull Lake, Saskatchewan, Canada; 14 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.
Besides her husband three children, who died in infancy preceded her in death.
