A.W. Hoppert, longtime Wahpeton business man and former Mayor of the city, died Monday morning at St. Joseph’s hospital, Orange, Calif. Funeral services will be held in Wahpeton with arrangements to be announced later.

Mr. Hoppert had been in business in Wahpeton 35 years, forming the Wahpeton Plumbing & Heating company & Hoppert’s Hardware. Prior to that he worked as a plumber here. Born in St. Paul Oct 9, 1892, he came here as a young man.

He is survived by his wife, to whom he was married two years ago, his sons, Merle and Glen and his daughters Mrs. Clifford Reiquam and Mrs. Don Hamilton, of Mill Valley, Calif. His brother Walter, one time Wahpeton resident, survives and makes his home in St. Paul as do two sisters; two sisters reside in Seattle.

Mr. Hoppert was a member of the First Congregational church, Wahpeton Rotary club, all Masonic bodies and El Zagal Shrine of Fargo. He was past president of the North Dakota Plumbers association and active in the local Chamber of Commerce.

He had suffered from cancer. He went to Rochester, Minn., in November where he was operated on. After Christmas he and Mrs. Hoppert went to California so he could be outside more.
