Obituary
Floyd Hammond
Services for Floyd Hammond, 70, Wahpeton, will be at 11 Tuesday at Bethel Lutheran Church, Wahpeton, with Rev. Martin L. Hartmann officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Memorial Gardens. Mr. Hammond died Friday night at his home.
Visitation is this afternoon and evening at Vertin's-Wahpeton Funeral Home Chapel and at the church for the hour prior to services. There will be a Masonic prayer service at 8 p.m. today at the chapel.
Floyd Hammond was born Aug. 16, 1908 at Wagner, S.D. to Simon and Anne (Bellin) Hammond. He moved to Wyndmere in 1923 with his family. He married Vera Anderson on June 5, 1936 at Wahpeton. He worked as a grain buyer at Barney and Tintah for 26 years and then operated a bulk oil and service station at Barney for five years before moving to Wahpeton in 1966.
He and his wife managed the Wahpeton Elks Club for eight years. He retired in 1974 and continued to live here.
Mr. Hammond was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church, the Wahpeton Elks Club, the Masonic Lodge and the El Zagel Shrine, Fargo. Survivors include his wife, two daughters and a son, Mrs. Gerald (Janice) Quam, Wyndmere, Mrs. Roland (Frances) Woodbury, Barney, Leslie James, San Diego; 11 grandchildren; three brothers and four sisters, Mrs. Walter (Laura) Dinger, Wyndmere, Mrs. Violet Schmeichel, Wahpeton, Ralph and John, Abercrombie, William, Martin and Dorothy, Wahpeton, and Lee, Portland, Ore.
Casket bearers are David and Vern Hammond, Larry Masching, Michael Schend, Scott busching and Everett Schmeichel.
