Obituary
Valborg Hans
Mrs. Alvin (Valborg) Hans, 74, Wahpeton, died Sunday at St. Francis Hospital, Breckenridge. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Bethel Lutheran Church, Rev. Marvin Hartmann officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Memorial Gardens, Wahpeton.
Visitation will be Tuesday afternoon and evening at Vertin's Wahpeton Funeral Home Chapel and at the church for the hour prior to services.
Val Bjornson was born April 8, 1906 at Thief River Falls, Minn., to Halvor and Thea (Johnson) Bjornson. The family moved to Rothsay, Minn., where her father was a Lutheran minister. She attended schools in Rothsay and graduated college there. She graduated from Concordia College where she was active in music.
She taught mathematics at Becker, Minn., and Aneta, N.D. She married Alvin Hans, June 23, 1932 at Rothsay. She came to Wahpeton where the couple lived. She taught senior high mathematics at Wahpeton High School from 1940-66.
She was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church where she served as choir director for 40 years. She was a member of the North Dakota and National Teachers Association. She was a member of the Aulde Fortnightly Club.
Survivors include her husband, a daughter, Virginia Hans, Minneapolis, a son, David, Palatine, Ill.; two brothers and three sisters, Sverre Bjornson, Wahpeton, Magne Bjornson, Pelican Rapids, Mrs. Sidney Lien, Trail, Minn., Mrs. Ingeborg Olson, Fergus Falls, and Mrs. Howard (Gunhild) Weller, Maple Plain, Minn.
She was preceded in death by her parents, an infant daughter, two brothers and a sister.
