Obituary

A. J. Hausauer Dies at Age 64; Funeral Rites Held Here Today

A. J. “Andy” Hausauer, 64, well known Wahpeton businessman and civic leader died Saturday at his home. Death was due to a heart condition.

Mr. Hausauer was the longtime owner and operator of Hausauer Beverages here.

Funeral services were held today (Monday) from Immanuel Lutheran church. Rev. Richard Tuescher officiating. Interment at Fairview Memorial Gardens.

Mr. Hausauer was born at Ortonville, Minn., Feb. 3, 1899, the son of Mr. and Mrs. George Hausuer.

He grew to manhood there and was married to Florence Stielow at Ortonville, Dec. 21, 1919. They moved to Wahpeton in 1923 and Mr. Hausauer was associated in the wholesale produce business. He entered the beverage business in 1934.

He had been a member of the City Council and the Wahpeton school board for a number of years. He was a past president of the Kiwanis Club and was a strong sports booster. He was a director of the Breckenridge-Wahpeton Independent Baseball association and was well known throughout the area for his work with Golden Gloves boxing.

He was member of the fire department for man years, a past president of the Chamber of Commerce and an organizer of the Bois de Sioux country club.

He received the State School of Science Alumni Hall of Fame award in 1958 for support of athletic programs in general and Golden Gloves boxing in particular and for continued support of the State School of Since. He was the first recipient of this annual award.

Mr. and Mrs. Hausauer have spent the winters in Mesa, Ariz. since 1947, however, had delayed leaving this winter due to Mr. Hausauer’s ill health.

He suffered a heart attack in 1955. His sons, LeRoy and Allen, have operated the business in recent years.

Surviving are his wife; two sons, LeRoy and Allen, both of Wahpeton and a daughter, Mrs. Robert (Helen) Bjorke, Minneapolis; 11 grandchildren; and five brothers, Jacob, George, Henry, Peter and Carl, all of Ortonville.

Vocal music was by the Immanual Lutheran Ladies Chorus with Stanley Strege, organist. Pallbearers, all nephews, were Marvin Hausauer, Floyd Hausauer, Robert Hausauer, Geroge Verhuel, Raymond Hausauer and Donald Oswood.

Vertin’s-Wahpeton Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
