Mabel Hektner

Mabel A. Hektner, 87, Wahpeton, died Saturday at St. Francis Hospital, Breckenridge. The funeral will be at 1:30 Tuesday at Bethel Lutheran Church, Wahpeton, with Rev. Marvin L. Hartmann officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Memorial Gardens.

Visitation will be Monday (today) afternoon and evening and Tuesday until 11 at Vertin's-Wahpeton Funeral Home Chapel. There will also be visitation at the church for the hour prior to services.

Mabel A. Huss was born Feb. 24, 1894 at Mooreton to Ellef and Nana (Nelson) Huss. She was raised and educated in Antelope Township, Mooreton, and Mayville State College where she received her certification as an elementary teacher. She taught rural schools for seven years in Richland and Nelson counties. She married Joseph Hektner Oct. 10, 1920. The couple farmed at Mooreton until 1947 when they retired and moved into Wahpeton. He died Jan. 9, 1965.

She was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church and the ALCW.

Survivors include two sons, Vernon, Wahpeton, and Donald Mooreton; three daughters, Mrs. Carleton (Sylvia) Lykness, Milnor, N.D., Mrs. Marcus (Jeannette) Radig, Bismarck, and Mrs. Alvin (Inez) Ecru, Wahpeton; 21 grandchildren and a great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by two brothers.

Casket bearers will be grandsons, Cory Lykness, Kennth, Gary, Brian and Joel Hektner and Scott Radig.
