Obituary
J. Meyer Johnson Rites Conducted In City Monday
Funeral service was held here Monday afternoon for J. Myer Johnson, well-known Wahpeton resident and secretary of the Home Mutual Insurance Co., here who died Thursday night at St. Francis hospital in Breckenridge. He was 68 years old and had been in failing health for some time.
Rev. P. A. Gisvold officiated at the service held at the Bethel Lutheran Church of which he was a devoted member. Interment will be in Fairview Cemetery here with Vertin Funeral Home of Wahpeton handling arrangements.
Directors of the Home Mutual Insurance Co. of which he had been secretary since 1932, were honorary pallbearers. They are Jens Lovdokken, William Bolme, R. S. Branson, Erick Fenske, N.N. Jordheim, Ray Moen, Reuben Myhra, Albert Pribbenow, Fred Solhjem, Harry Strege and A. W. Witt.
Active pallbearers were John Hinds, Leo Novetzke Hans Syvertsen, Reuben Myhra, Vernon Johnson and Dr. A. W. Plachte.
Mr. Johnson was born at Cadillac, Mich., April 15, 1886. He moved to Clarissa, Minn., as a boy with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Johnson, where he spent his youth. He graduated from Long Prairie High School and attended Park Region College at Fergus Falls, Minn., and a Minneapolis business college.
After college he was employed for some time by the Soo Line Railroad in Minneapolis before coming to North Dakota to Hettinger. He moved to Richland County in 1912 to Lidgerwood where he was a secretary and a director of the Movius Land and Loan Co, until 1932 when he came to Wahpeton.
He married Alma Strom he same year that he came to Lidgerwood.
A member of Bethel Lutheran Church, he had served as Sunday School superintendent of the church for many years and had taken a prominent part in other church activities. He was a past president and secretary of the Wahpeton Rotary Club and had been active in music circles.
Besides his wife he leaves two daughters, Mrs. W. S. (Harriet) Davidson, Port Huron, Mich., and Mrs. C. N. (Maureen) Workman, Cleveland, Ohio; a brother, the Rev. Arthur S. Johnson, River Falls, Wis.; two sisters, Mrs. George Strom, Troy, Mont., and Mrs. H.D. Mosby, Mason City, Iowa, and four grandchildren.
