Obituary
J. A. Johnson Rites Monday In Wahpeton
J. A. Johnson, 80, Wahpeton Photographer and resident of this community for many years, died Thursday evening at his home. He suffered a fatal heart attack shortly after returning from attending a church supper here.
Funeral services were held Monday afternoon in Bethel Lutheran church with Rev. P. A. Gisvold officiating. Graveside services were conducted by the Masonic Lodge. Interment was in Fairview Cemetery here. Vertin Funeral home of Wahpeton had charge of arrangements. Pallbearers were Walter Wendelin, Henry Rustad, Carl Gauslow, Ray Nermoe, James Adams and Vernon Johnson. Honorary pallbearers were Geo. Iverson, James Johnson. G. E. Perdfield, C.M. Beeson, Arthur Amble and Herman Rich.
John Andrew Johnson was born Dec. 29, 1878, in Sweden and came with his parents when two years old to the United States. The family settled first at Evansville, Minn., where he attended school and grew to manhood.
As a young man he opened a photographic studio at Sauk Centre, Minn. He and Grace I. Imboden were united in marriage at Long Prairie, Minn. Jan. 10, 1901.
They moved to Breckenridge in 1911 where Mr. Johnson established a photographic studio until 1943 when he moved the studio and his residence to Wahpeton.
His only son, Carlyle, became associated in business and had conducted the business in recent years. However, Mr. Johnson was active in the operation of the firm until recently.
Mrs. Johnson died Oct. 11, 1950.
While in Breckenridge, Mr. Johnson served as a member of the city council and had been honored recently for 50 years membership in the Masonic Lodge. He was a Past Master of the Frontier Lodge in Breckenridge and belonged to all Masonic bodies including the Shrine. He was also a member of the Order of Eastern Star and was an ardent sportsman.
His son and a granddaughter survive.
